KISORO — Police in Kisoro District are investigating a suspected suicide by hanging involving an 80-year-old man identified as Ndagijimana Andrew, a resident of Mataramba Village, Gisozi Parish, Muramba Sub-county, Kisoro District.
According to police, the incident occurred on September 5, 2026, at around 7:00 a.m. at the deceased’s home in Mataramba Village.
Nelson Tumushime, Superintendent of Police and PRO Kigezi said that Ndagijimana’s wife, Nyirayanze Tereza, left him at home and travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo to cultivate her land.
Upon returning from the Democratic Republic of Congo at around 7:00 p.m., Nyirayanze reportedly found the door to their house locked from the inside.
She attempted to open the door but failed, prompting her to call neighbours for assistance. The neighbours reportedly broke down the door and found Ndagijimana’s body hanging from a rope inside the house.
He said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
