KANUNGU — Police in Kanungu District are investigating a fire outbreak that destroyed household property worth millions of shillings at Green Tree Bar & Restaurant in Butogota Central, Butogota Southern Ward, Butogota Town Council.
According to Turyasingura Christopher, the proprietor of Green Tree Bar & Restaurant, he closed the premises at around 3am and went to rest.
He was later alerted at around 10am that the premises had caught fire and had been reduced to ashes.
Police and local residents responded swiftly and managed to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring premises.
According to Nelson Tumushime, SP PRO, Kigezi Region, Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit.
The extent of the damage and the exact value of the property destroyed are yet to be established as investigations continue.
