Motorists traveling on the Kampala-Jinja highway are advised to utilize alternative routes to facilitate ongoing maintenance efforts on the Mabira section.

This section had become hazardous due to potholes, which have been causing significant traffic congestion and accidents as drivers navigate carefully around them.

Heavy trucks have frequently overturned in this section after struggling to maneuver through deep potholes.

In response to public concerns, the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has initiated essential maintenance work on the Mabira section of the Kampala-Jinja Highway as of November 23, 2024, aimed at repairing the deteriorating road surface.

The maintenance is scheduled to be completed by December 7, 2024.

UNRA strongly recommends that motorists take the Mukono-Kyetume-Katosi-Kisoga-Nyenga/Njeru route as an alternative to avoid disruptions.

Additionally, drivers of light vehicles are encouraged to consider the Njeru-Kayunga-Mukono/Kalagi-Gayaza route when traveling to Kampala.

The Kampala-Jinja Highway serves as a vital transit corridor for trade between Uganda and its neighboring countries through Kenya, facilitating the movement of goods from Mombasa Port to Uganda and beyond, highlighting its importance to the national economy.

The authority has urged all road users to adhere to the guidance provided by traffic police and the project safety team during the maintenance period.
