KAMPALA, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) – Police in Kampala have arrested more than 300 suspects in a series of intelligence-led security operations targeting suspected criminal gangs and drug-related activities across the metropolitan area ahead of the festive season.
The arrests were made during coordinated operations conducted on October 28, 29 and 30, 2026, in collaboration with other security agencies, Kampala Metropolitan Police said.
The operations targeted suspected criminal hideouts and crime-prone areas across several policing divisions, including Katwe, Central Police Station (CPS), Kabalagala, Wandegeya, Kira and Jinja Road.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala, the crackdown was aimed at disrupting criminal networks, apprehending suspected offenders and strengthening public safety as the festive season approaches.
“The operations are part of our continued efforts to dismantle criminal gangs, disrupt criminal networks and prevent criminal activities across the Kampala Metropolitan Area,” Kawala said.
Police said the operations primarily targeted individuals suspected of involvement in drug and substance abuse, as well as other activities believed to be linked to organised criminal groups.
Security personnel also recovered several exhibits suspected to be connected to criminal activities. The items have been retained to support ongoing investigations.
All the suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. Police said they will undergo screening and other required procedures before being processed and presented before court in accordance with the law.
Kawala urged members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
Police say the operations form part of broader efforts to prevent crime and safeguard residents and visitors during the busy festive season.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police has reiterated its commitment to working with other security agencies to maintain law and order across the region.
