KAMPALA, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) –Former students of St. Peter’s Secondary School Nsambya have resolved to revive their alumni association, SPENSAN, to support the development agenda of the more than 100-year-old Catholic-founded school.
The decision was reached on October 4, 2026, during the alumni’s maiden Annual General Meeting held at the school in Nsambya. The meeting brought together former students following an invitation by the school headmistress, Asiimwe Elizabeth Kyaragaire Mwebaze.
The excited old boys and girls thanked the headmistress for reopening the doors for alumni reunions, saying that although it had been more than 10 years since their last meeting, they were humbled to return and begin planning for the school’s comprehensive infrastructure development.
They said the school had played a significant role in shaping them into responsible citizens and therefore felt obliged to give back and contribute to its growth.
Aine Moses, a member of the 1995–1999 cohort and currently a manager at Centenary Bank, pledged to strengthen collaboration among alumni and other stakeholders to transform the school.
He said he would mobilise former students occupying strategic positions in government and the private sector to support the construction of a modern and monumental school gate.
The headmistress, Asiimwe, thanked the alumni for responding to her invitation, saying their return was timely as the school seeks to reconnect with its alumni community scattered across the country and around the world.
She urged the former students to support the school in addressing infrastructure challenges, including renovating old classroom blocks, painting, improving plumbing services and supporting the welfare of teaching and non-teaching staff.
The deputy headteacher, Ssekasanvu Simon Peter, and the Dean of Students, Dr Kiwanuka Ssebabbi Joseph, presided over the election of a 14-member interim committee tasked with steering the revival of SPENSAN.
The committee will review the association’s existing constitution and propose amendments where necessary to align it with current development needs.
It will also develop a strategic master plan to guide the future development of the school, recruit new alumni members and work closely with the school administration to improve communication and information sharing among stakeholders.
Among notable former students of the school are Justice Leticia Kikonyogo, a former Deputy Chief Justice and current board member of Bank of Uganda; musician Ronald Mayinja; and Hon. Moses Kasibante, a former Member of Parliament for Rubaga Division, among others.
The alumni said they would promote stronger reunions, reconnection and engagement among former students while mobilising support to rejuvenate the school’s infrastructure and development programmes.
They also plan to introduce mentorship and training programmes for students and encourage wider support for the school across different areas of development.
The headmistress welcomed the old boys and girls back to their former school, describing them as an important part of its history and future.
She said the school remains rooted in Catholic faith, ethics and moral values and called on the alumni to help preserve and strengthen that legacy.
