KAMPALA, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) – Uganda’s Health Ministry has moved to dispel reports surrounding the employment status of a doctor at Arua Regional Referral Hospital, insisting that he remains at work as the government urges health professionals to maintain standards and protect patient care.
The Ministry of Health has denied suspending Dr Robert Candia of Arua Regional Referral Hospital, saying the doctor remains in service and continues to perform his duties.
In a public statement dated 16 October 2026, Permanent Secretary Dr Diana Atwine said the ministry wished to clarify Candia’s status, adding that any disciplinary action against public servants must follow established government procedures.
“The Ministry of Health clarifies that Dr Robert Candia of Arua Regional Referral Hospital has not been suspended and continues to perform his duties,” the statement said.
The clarification comes amid questions about the doctor’s status, although the ministry did not explain what prompted the reports or disclose whether any formal disciplinary proceedings involving Candia were under consideration.
Dr Atwine said government had established procedures for handling disciplinary matters within the public service, emphasising that any action against an employee must comply with the applicable rules.
She also called on health workers to uphold professional standards and remain focused on delivering quality healthcare, stressing the importance of maintaining uninterrupted services for Ugandans seeking treatment at public health facilities.
“The Ministry remains committed to constructive engagement with health workers while upholding accountability and ensuring quality patient care,” she said.
The statement did not provide further details about Candia’s circumstances or identify any specific allegations against him.
