MUKONO, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) — Former Nakisunga Sub-County LC III chairperson Sekikubo Mubarak has been charged with corruption and criminal conspiracy over an alleged Shs38 million scheme to secure a government job for a medical doctor.
Mubarak was on Monday arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, working jointly with the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
He was remanded until November 4, 2026, as investigations into the alleged scheme continue.
Prosecution alleges that between January and June 2025, in Mukono Town, Mubarak conspired with Mugerwa Ronald Saaku, a Probation and Welfare Officer for Lugazi Municipality, and Dr Wataba Saadi, who are both still at large, to defraud Dr Mukisa George William of Shs38 million.
The accused and his alleged accomplices reportedly convinced Dr Mukisa, a job applicant, that they could secure him employment as a Medical Officer in Mukono District.
Investigations further indicate that the suspects allegedly claimed the money would be used to facilitate members of the Mukono District Service Commission to improperly influence the recruitment process in favour of Dr Mukisa.
The alleged arrangement involved offering an undue advantage to secure the government position, according to the prosecution’s account.
The case highlights concerns about alleged corruption in public-sector recruitment, where job seekers may be targeted by individuals claiming to have influence over appointments.
The two other suspects named in the alleged conspiracy remain at large.
Mubarak is expected to return to court on November 4 as the case proceeds.
