KAMPALA, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) – The growing influence of artificial intelligence, automation and evolving global financial standards on the workplace is expected to dominate discussions as Uganda’s accounting and finance professionals convene later this month to examine the future of their profession.
The fifth ACCA Uganda Members Convention, scheduled for November 19–20 at Speke Resort and Convention Centre in Munyonyo, will bring together accountants, business executives, policymakers and other finance-sector stakeholders to explore how professionals can adapt to technological disruption while supporting sustainable business growth.
Under the theme “Navigating Change: Flexible and Inclusive Career Pathways,” the convention comes at a time when technological advancements and changing business expectations are redefining the skills required of finance professionals.
Beyond traditional accounting responsibilities, discussions will examine the expanding role of accountants in artificial intelligence, sustainability reporting, investment management, strategic decision-making and business transformation.
Charlotte Kukunda, Country Manager of ACCA Uganda, said the convention would provide an opportunity for professionals to examine emerging changes, exchange experiences and identify opportunities arising from the evolving business environment.
She noted that the programme would explore how accountants can move beyond conventional roles and position themselves to take advantage of opportunities in artificial intelligence, automation, evolving global standards and emerging areas of talent development.
The discussions will also connect the changing role of the accountant to Uganda’s broader economic ambitions.
Dr Joseph Muvawala, Executive Director of the National Planning Authority, is expected to address the contribution of the evolving professional accountant to Uganda’s growth strategy and economic reinvention.
Meanwhile, Hon. Henry Musaasizi, Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development, is expected to officiate at the opening of the convention.
Joseph Owolabi FCCA, Founder and CEO of Rubicola Consulting and former ACCA Council President, will deliver keynote addresses examining global opportunities for accountants, sustainability reporting adoption, green finance and emerging carbon market trends.
Other areas on the agenda include Uganda’s sustainability roadmap and adoption of IFRS S1 and S2, public financial management reforms in the age of artificial intelligence, venture capital, private equity, mutual funds and alternative investments.
The convention will also examine changing labour-market dynamics, digital transformation, talent management in multigenerational workplaces, professional wellbeing, coaching, mentorship and succession planning.
Aiden Rujumba FCCA, Commissioner for Financial Management Systems at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development; David Masiko FCCA of the National Social Security Fund; and Jackson Ndyabanawe, Country General Manager of Flutterwave Uganda, are among the expected speakers.
Bishop Joshua Lwere will also contribute to discussions on issues affecting professionals at personal and corporate levels.
The two-day convention will adopt a hybrid format, allowing participants to attend physically or virtually. The first day will focus on reskilling and strengthening the professional accountant, while the second will examine the role of finance professionals in driving sustainable businesses.
The Uganda Members Convention has been held since 2014, taking place every two years and alternating with the Africa Members Convention. It provides a platform for continuing professional development, networking, knowledge exchange and engagement on issues affecting the accountancy profession.
Physical participation costs UGX 1.1 million for ACCA members, affiliates and students and UGX 1.3 million for non-ACCA delegates. Virtual participation costs UGX 600,000 and UGX 800,000 respectively.
