GGABA, KAMPALA — Preparations are complete for the trial of Christopher Onyum Okello, the suspect in the high-profile Ggaba toddlers’ murder case, as the Judiciary rolls out a landmark Mobile High Court session in the city.
Earlier today, the Principal Judge, Jane Frances Abodo, inspected the Ggaba Community Church grounds to assess their readiness to host the special court sitting. The session will be presided over by Alice Komuhangi Khaukha.
This marks the first Mobile High Court criminal session to be conducted in Kampala, a significant step aimed at bringing justice closer to communities. The initiative underscores the Judiciary’s commitment to improving access to justice through innovative and people-centered approaches.
The Mobile Court session will operate under the newly issued Mobile Courts Practice Directions introduced by the Chief Justice. These guidelines provide a legal framework for holding court proceedings outside traditional courtrooms when circumstances require.
Judicial officials say the move is expected to enhance public participation and transparency, particularly in cases that deeply affect local communities.
