A sudden and dramatic fire outbreak at a Mogas fuel station in Seeta on Wednesday has drawn an urgent response from the Police Fire and Rescue Services, with crews racing against time to contain the flames amid growing concern from the public.
The thick plumes of smoke were seen rising above the busy Mukono–Kampala highway as firefighters worked relentlessly to bring the situation under control.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the blaze, saying investigations are underway and more details will be released as soon as they are confirmed.
The incident has quickly spiraled into a traffic nightmare, with congestion building up along one of the region’s busiest routes.
As emergency teams continue their operations, the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety has issued advisories urging motorists to avoid the affected area and seek alternative routes to ease the pressure on the road network.
Drivers heading from Mukono toward Kampala have been redirected through Seeta–Sonde Road via Namugongo, while those traveling in the opposite direction are being guided to pass through Jookas in Namanve Industrial Park or use the Northern Bypass via Naalya–Sonde–Seeta.
Police have appealed for calm and patience, acknowledging the disruption caused but emphasizing that the priority remains bringing the fire under control and ensuring public safety.
Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, Luke Owoyesigyire, assured the public that updates will follow as the situation develops.
