Former President Donald Trump has been re-elected as the 47th President of the United States. This victory comes after he previously lost his bid for a second consecutive term after serving as the 45th President.
His return to power has garnered international congratulations from various leaders across the globe.
The election results revealed Trump defeating Vice President Kamala Harris in a contest that was less competitive than anticipated, securing crucial wins in battleground states.
In the key battleground states, Trump managed to win the electoral votes in crucial areas such as Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, ultimately reaching the 270-vote mark in the Electoral College, which paved his way to the presidency in January.
At present, Trump has secured 277 electoral votes, while Harris stands at 224.
Although polls indicated a tighter race, it appears that the Republican’s comeback has been driven by widespread public frustration and a vigorous response to his loss in 2020, coupled with his contentious position on acknowledging election outcomes.
Numerous observers expected Harris to secure a decisive victory, but they were taken aback by Trump’s strong showing.
Trump thanked his supporters for electing him back into office as the 47th President.
“I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th president. This will truly be the golden age of America,” Trump told supporters in West Palm Beach, Florida.
His election marks the end of a chaotic campaign period, which saw two assassination attempts on his life, the unexpected withdrawal of his initial Democratic opponent, President Joe Biden, in favor of Vice President Kamala Harris, and Trump’s persistent, unfounded assertions that the 2020 election was rigged against him.
