Ann Ruyondo Lumumba has won the NRM flagbearer position for Chairperson of the National Women’s Council after securing 109 votes in the party primaries.
Ruyondo defeated incumbent Farida Kibowa, who polled 25 votes.
In the other positions, Hon. Agnes Kirabo won the Vice Chairperson position with 81 votes, defeating Janipher Kengaju Akiiki and Sheebah Nagudi Muloni, who received 32 and three votes respectively.
Hope Nakunda was elected NRM flagbearer for Secretary for Finance, while Among Shakila Mwenyi won the position of Secretary for Publicity.
The NRM Electoral Commission Chairman, Dr Tanga Odoi, who presided over the exercise, praised voters for maintaining discipline throughout the election.
“I am happy that we have at last chosen leaders of your choice who will represent the NRM in the Friday national elections,” Dr Tanga said.
“The NRM party will, with its full force, back our ticket holders at the national level to ensure we defeat the opposition candidates and the independents,” he added.
The Chairperson of the NRM Women’s League, Hon. Adrine Kobusigye, congratulated the newly elected team for winning the mandate of NRM women leaders and pledged her support.
“I hope everyone is satisfied with the process and therefore nobody will come out to contest as an independent or even sponsor one. Let us remain united and mobilise to pull off the final win on Friday. It will be a shame for someone who went through all this process to vie as an independent,” Kobusigye said.
