The Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Paul Ssemogerere, has urged Christians and well-wishers of Mulago Catholic Parish to support the construction of a Shs60 million adoration chapel aimed at strengthening the spiritual formation of young Christians.
The appeal was delivered in his homily by the Dean of Nakulabye Deanery, Monsignor John Baptist Ssebayiga, on Sunday, 16 August 2026, during celebrations to mark 70 years of Mulago Catholic Parish.
The celebrations, held under the theme “You Will Be My Witness,” also featured a fundraising drive for the proposed adoration chapel.
Ssemogerere congratulated the parish community on reaching the 70-year milestone, noting its contribution to infrastructure development and the expansion of evangelisation programmes across its four sub-parishes.

He called on Christians, leaders and other stakeholders to mobilise the resources required to begin construction, with the aim of having the chapel completed and opened for worship by the end of the year.
The chairperson of the organising committee, Salongo Alysius Bakudaala, said the parish was proud of seven decades of evangelisation and infrastructure development.
Bakudaala, who is also the head of laity at Kyebando Sub-Parish, said the parish would continue reaching out to vulnerable communities with messages of hope and encouraging young people to work towards improving their lives.
He highlighted several achievements, including the completion of the priests’ residential complex and strengthened collaboration with government and other stakeholders.
He said the parish had also supported the Presidential Skilling Initiative for the girl and boy child, which has provided hundreds of young people with vocational training opportunities.
Bakudaala said the parish’s planned projects include construction of the Kavule Sub-Parish church, a business complex at Kyebando Sub-Parish, renovation of the church building and tenants’ rooms at Wandegeya Sub-Parish, and construction of the adoration chapel at Central Mulago Sub-Parish.

The parish priest, Father Okwai-Rwoth Angelo, urged Christians to deepen their commitment to serving humanity by strengthening faith-formation programmes and expanding outreach to vulnerable people living in surrounding communities.
He also called on parents to strengthen child-care and protection measures, while teaching children discipline, respect for older people and commitment to their faith.
During the celebrations, St Lawrence University donated Shs1 million and offered 100 bursaries to support higher education for bright students from financially disadvantaged families.
The Presidential Skilling Initiative also donated cement towards construction of the adoration chapel, while other Christians and organisations made contributions to the project.
The parish said the proposed chapel will form part of its broader efforts to strengthen prayer, faith formation and evangelisation among its growing Christian community.
