A 39-year-old boda boda rider died instantly while three other people sustained serious injuries following a road crash at Kyanamira Trading Centre along the Kabale–Mbarara Highway on Thursday morning.
According to Kigezi Region Traffic Police, the crash occurred on August 6 and involved a Fuso Fighter truck, registration number UBK 071L, and a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UFD 939Z.
The deceased was identified as Niwagaba Gilbert, a boda boda rider and resident of Kyamugaba Village, Kanjobe Parish, Kyanamira Sub-county in Kabale District.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime said three other victims, whose identities had not yet been established by press time, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the Fuso Fighter truck, which was travelling from Kampala to Kisoro, allegedly lost control before veering off the road and rammed into a parked motorcycle. The impact caused the rider to die instantly and left three other people seriously injured.
