A routine morning of play ended in tragedy on Wednesday when a five-year-old girl was electrocuted in Kakunguru Zone, Kibuli, Kampala.
The child, identified as Ayomirwoth Rehema, was playing with other children near a drainage channel at around 11:00am when she reportedly came into contact with a live stay wire supporting an electric pole.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigire the girl died instantly.
He said Police from Kabalagala Police Division, accompanied by Scenes of Crime Officers (SOCOs), rushed to the scene and conducted examinations and documentation. Rehema’s body was later taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Officials from the Electricity Distribution Company were notified and immediately disconnected the dangerous wire to prevent further harm.
No arrests have been made as investigations continue. Police have appealed to the public to promptly report exposed or faulty electrical installations to the relevant authorities to prevent similar tragedies.
