Police are investigating an overnight attack on Bugoye Sub-County Police Station in Kasese District in which about six people armed with pangas reportedly attempted to seize a firearm from an officer on duty.
The attack occurred at around 2am on October 1, 2026, when the group allegedly stormed the police station and confronted the officer on duty. The officer resisted the attempt to take his firearm and shot one of the attackers in the leg.
The injured suspect fled the scene but was later found dead a short distance from the police station. His identity had not been established by the time of the police statement, while his body was taken to the mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Police said four people have been arrested in connection with the attack. They are Irumba Simon, Kiiza Abson, Kadama George and Baluku Lenaxi.
A panga was recovered at the scene as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify and locate other suspects who fled.
Police have appealed to members of the public with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the suspects still at large to report to the nearest police station. Authorities also urged residents to report any suspicious activity linked to the attack.
Police said they remain on alert and prepared to respond to attacks targeting police facilities.
