BREAKING: An extraordinary High Court session was convened today 14th April, 2026 in Ggaba, bringing judicial proceedings directly to a community still reeling from one of the most shocking crimes in recent memory.
The public court sitting, held at the grounds of Ggaba Community Church near the scene of the tragedy, drew large crowds of residents seeking justice and answers.
The accused, Christopher Okello Onyum, 38, appeared before the court and pleaded not guilty to charges of murdering four children at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre. The killings, which occurred on April 2, 2026, have left the lakeside community in deep mourning.
Prosecutors allege that Okello carried out the premeditated killing of four toddlers enrolled at the centre, a facility known for supporting vulnerable and malnourished children. The victims—Gideon Eteku, Keisha Agenorwoth Otim, Ignatius Sseruyange, and Ryan Odeke—were all between one and two-and-a-half years old.
Witnesses at the open-air session described a tense atmosphere as the accused stood before a visibly emotional crowd. Many residents, still grappling with grief and anger, gathered early to observe proceedings in what authorities described as a rare move to bring justice closer to the affected community.
Legal observers note that holding court sessions at or near crime scenes is highly unusual, but can serve to enhance transparency and allow victims’ families and the broader public to follow proceedings more closely.
Throughout the session, Okello remained composed as charges were read out. Prosecutors are expected to present further evidence as the case progresses, while the defense maintains his innocence.
The court adjourned with proceedings set to continue, as the community of Ggaba waits anxiously for justice in a case that has profoundly shaken the nation.
