Police in Kabale District are holding a suspect in connection with the alleged murder of his wife following a domestic dispute.
The suspect has been identified as Babikyingira Godfrey, also known as “God”. The deceased is Niwamanya Gorrette, alias “Koreti”, a 35-year-old housewife, a Mukiga by tribe, and a resident of Nyakarindi Village, Kasheregyenyi Parish, Kamuganguzi Sub-county, Kabale District.
According to preliminary police reports, the incident occurred on June 7, 2026, at around 7:30 p.m. in Nyakarindi Village, Kasheregyenyi Parish, Kamuganguzi Sub-county.
It is alleged that earlier that evening, Niwamanya was drinking waragi at a local bar in Kasheregyenyi when a dispute arose between her and her husband. The suspect reportedly accused his wife of stealing his money.
Police further allege that Babikyingira picked a fencing stick locally known as oruyenge and used it to assault the deceased, inflicting injuries that resulted in her death.
Upon receiving information about the incident, officers from Kamuganguzi Police Station swiftly responded to the scene and arrested the suspect to assist with investigations.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
