Police in Nateete are holding a male suspect in connection with the alleged theft of cash.
The suspect has been identified as Kayaga Rayan, who allegedly presented himself as Namirembe Rukia while seeking employment as a domestic worker. Preliminary investigations indicate that he disguised himself as a woman in order to secure the job.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to posing as a female domestic worker with the intention of stealing from employers. Police say this forms part of the ongoing investigations.
The suspect was most recently employed in Mutundwe, Rubaga Division, Kampala District, where he is alleged to have stolen UGX 1.7 million from his employers.
He was arrested at a church in Mutundwe after security personnel conducted a routine security check before the start of a church service. Following his arrest, the employers reportedly discovered that UGX 1.7 million was missing from their residence and subsequently reported the matter to the police.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue and will be arraigned in court upon completion of the investigations.
The Uganda Police Force has reminded members of the public to exercise due diligence when recruiting domestic workers and other household employees.
Whenever possible, employers are advised to verify the identity, background, and references of prospective employees and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
