WAKISO: Police in Wakiso are holding a mechanic suspected of being involved in the rampant theft of motorcycles or boda bodas.
This follows intensified operations by Nsangi Police Division targeting an organised network involved in the theft, dismantling, and alteration of motorcycles within Nsangi and neighbouring areas.
According to the deputy police spokesperson, Kampala Metropolitan, Luke Owoyesigyire onn March 2nd, 2026 at about 1700 hours, police conducted an operation in Kigwanya Cell, Nabbingo Parish, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District, following actionable intelligence linking a suspect to the robbery of a motorcycle from Arua District.

Further information indicated that on March 1, 2026 at about 1900 hours, the suspect delivered the stolen motorcycle to a garage known as “Younger’s Garage” located in Buwali Village near Emma Oil Petrol Station in Nsangi, with the intention of altering the engine and registration details to conceal its identity.

“The recovery of additional motorcycle parts and another motorcycle points to an organised racket involved in dismantling and altering stolen motorcycles for resale,” he added.
He confirmed that three suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the case including Kabogoza as the Prime suspect , Shafik Bbagala Smalias Younger (proprietor of the garage) and Samson Aryatuha (parking attendant) where the exhibits were kept
Owoyesgyire said police have recorded statements from relevant witnesses and suspects, taken still photographs of the exhibits and scene, and secured the recovered items pending forensic examination.
He noted that partial interviews with the suspects have been conducted, and investigations are ongoing to identify additional accomplices, trace rightful owners of recovered motorcycles, and ensure appropriate charges are preferred in courts of law.
“We reaffirm our commitment to dismantling organised criminal networks and urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station,” he said.
