In celebration of Women’s Month, MTN Uganda’s General Manager for the Enterprise Business Unit, Ibrahim Senyonga, paid a courtesy visit to Jean Byamugisha, Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Hotel Owners Association (UHOA), in appreciation of her remarkable leadership in the hospitality sector.
During the visit at the UHOA offices in Kampala, Senyonga remarked, “In commemoration of Women’s Month, you were selected as one of the women accelerating change. Today, we celebrate you for your tremendous impact in the hospitality sector.”
Byamugisha, a trailblazer in Uganda’s tourism industry, has led UHOA for nine years, expanding its membership to 748 hotels and spearheading a project that trains refugees in hotel management. This initiative equips displaced individuals with hospitality skills, fostering economic inclusion and workforce development.
“Women play a vital role in shaping Uganda’s tourism sector. Our mission is to elevate hospitality standards while fostering inclusivity. I am deeply honored, highly flattered, and honestly humbled by this kind gesture,” Byamugisha expressed.
The discussions emphasized the significance of technology in modernizing the hospitality industry and explored areas of collaboration, including enhancing internet services for hotels through high-speed connectivity, streamlining operations with MTN’s digital tools, optimizing hotel management systems with cloud solutions, implementing smart hotel solutions through IoT integration, and strengthening digital security for hospitality businesses through advanced cybersecurity measures, among other offerings from MTN.
This partnership, celebrated during Women’s Month, marks a milestone in recognizing female leadership and the invaluable role women play in Uganda’s hospitality sector. It also underscores the importance of embracing innovation to drive growth, competitiveness, and sustainability in the industry. As MTN Uganda continues its transition to a technology company, the collaboration serves as a testament to the shared vision of empowering businesses and communities.
