MTN Uganda has taken its 2026 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign to Maddu Health Centre IV in Gomba District, Central Uganda, to support maternal and newborn healthcare.

The engagement responds to the need for stronger frontline health facilities, better health information systems and wider community support to help mothers and newborns access timely care closer to home.

Held as part of the 2026 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign, the activity brought together MTN employees, district leaders, healthcare workers, community members and partners to deliver services at the facility.

Activities included a community health camp offering screening, registration and health education; EMRIS training for medical records officers; digital literacy sessions for Village Health Teams and community health workers; financial literacy sessions by MTN MoMo; infrastructure-related support including medical equipment, beds, bicycles, smartphones, and ICT equipment; and the introduction of Zuri Health as a digital tool to improve access to trusted healthcare information and referrals.

Backed by approximately UGX 600 million, the 2026 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign is being implemented across four health facilities under the theme “Expand Equitable Health for Every Community.” After supporting Kibiito Health Centre IV in Bunyangabu District and Maddu Health Centre IV in Gomba District, the campaign will also reach Kiyunga Health Centre IV in Luuka District and Karita Health Centre IV in Amudat District.

Speaking at Maddu Health Centre IV, MTN MoMo Uganda Managing Director Phrase Lubega said Y’ello Care reflects MTN Uganda’s commitment to using technology, partnerships and employee volunteerism to address practical community needs.

“For mothers, newborns and families, quality healthcare begins at the facility closest to them. Through Y’ello Care, we are helping to strengthen the systems, skills and services that enable communities to access care in time,” Lubega said.

“We want technology to strengthen healthcare delivery by improving access to information, supporting health workers and helping people make informed decisions about when and where to seek care,” he said.

Uchenna Ezedinachi, Chief of Staff of Zuri Health, said the partnership with MTN Uganda is designed to complement existing health facilities by giving communities easier access to trusted healthcare guidance and appropriate referrals.

“Distance should not prevent people from getting basic healthcare guidance. By combining our digital platform with MTN Uganda’s connectivity, we can bring trusted information closer to people and help them take action earlier,” She said.

Christine Kahunzire, the District Health Officer for Gomba District, said the support at Maddu Health Centre IV will go a long way in improving maternal and newborn health outcomes for the surrounding communities.

“Effective healthcare delivery requires adequate infrastructure, reliable systems, trained personnel and communities that understand when and where to seek care. This support strengthens our ability to serve mothers, newborns and other patients at the point where they need care most,” she said.

Lubega said the campaign builds on MTN Uganda’s long-term investment in maternal and newborn health and its broader commitment to resilient communities.

“Over the past decade, MTN Uganda has invested more than Shs7.5 billion in maternal and newborn health programmes, supporting 36 health facilities across 49 districts and reaching more than one million beneficiaries. These efforts are part of our commitment to building stronger and more resilient communities,” he said.

In the coming weeks, the campaign will continue at Kiyunga and Karita health centres, extending support for maternal and child health, digital literacy and community empowerment.

Now in its 19th year, 21 Days of Y’ello Care is MTN Group’s employee volunteerism initiative, through which employees across its markets dedicate their time, skills and expertise to addressing social challenges in the communities where they operate.
