MITOOMA District: During a vibrant NRM presidential campaign rally at Kirambi–Ruhinda Market Grounds in Mitooma District, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearer, laid out an ambitious package of infrastructural, economic, and social development plans aimed at transforming the district in the next presidential term.
Roads, Electricity and Infrastructure: “Mitooma must move forward”
President Museveni committed to extending the Ishaka–Kashenshero tarmac road through Mitooma to Rukungiri District, along with the Bwizibwera–Nyakambu–Rukungiri road, calling the upgrades “a necessary push to open the region for greater economic activity.”
He also confirmed that the government will complete the last-mile extension of electricity to the remaining 3 out of 18 subcounties still lacking power.
“If the roads and electricity reach every corner of Mitooma, nothing will stop the people from creating wealth,” he told the cheering crowd.
Education and Health: Expanding Services for a Growing Population
General Museveni highlighted that Mitooma already hosts 109 government primary schools, 16 secondary schools, and several health facilities including a general hospital. He pledged further improvements, saying the NRM will broaden access to quality education and health services.
“No child should be denied education because of poverty,” he emphasized, urging residents to defend universal education.
Boost for Cash Crops & Tea Farmers
The President reassured tea farmers that the government’s Shs 360 billion tea revitalization fund will be accessible to all eligible growers. He encouraged farmers to increase quality and productivity.
He also pledged support for other major cash crops and urged residents to adopt sustainable land-use practices.
“This money is for you the farmers. Use it to improve your yields and expand your incomes,” Museveni said.
Wealth Creation: From Subsistence to Commercial Farming
General Museveni once again advocated for the 4-acre model, recommending enterprises like dairy farming, poultry, fish farming, fruits, coffee, and cocoa.
“When every household engages in wealth creation, the whole nation rises,” he remarked, urging subsistence farmers to shift into commercial production.
The President also showcased several successful wealth creators across the country, urging Mitooma residents to emulate them.
Peace, Unity and Stability: “Do not break the glass of peace”
President Museveni strongly condemned sectarian politics, describing peace and stability as the pillars of Uganda’s progress.
“The NRM’s unity has delivered the peace you see today, protect it,” he told supporters.
First Lady and Deputy Speaker Rally Support
First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni called on the youth to defend NRM gains and lead community mobilization ahead of the January 15th, 2026 General elections.
Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa reported progress in coffee growing, economic diversification, and government empowerment programs such as the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, Youth Livelihood, and Women Empowerment Fund.
He appealed for support to complete fencing of Queen Elizabeth National Park to curb human–wildlife conflict.
Minister Otafiire: “Peace is like glass—beautiful but fragile”
Internal Affairs Minister and Ruhinda County NRM flagbearer Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire reminded supporters that although NRM has governed for 40 years, much of that time was spent rebuilding and securing Uganda.
“Open your eyes and see the peace NRM has built. Peace is like glass—useful and beautiful, but dangerous if shattered,” he said.
Otafiire urged voters to guard stability and turn up in big numbers on polling day:
“Do not take victory for granted. Whether sick or well, make sure you vote.”
