KAMPALA – In a nationwide display of support, executive members of National Youth League structures from across Uganda have unanimously endorsed Fiona Nakku as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearer for the position of National Female Youth Member of Parliament ahead of the party’s upcoming primaries.
The announcement was made on June 24, 2025, shortly after Nakku was officially nominated at the NRM electoral commission offices in Kyadondo to contest in the forthcoming elections.
Nakku, a native of Busia District and younger sister to NRM party treasurer Nekesa Oundo, launched her campaign with a colorful procession led by over 60 supporters and accompanied by traditional kadodi drummers. The group marched to Kati Kati Restaurant in Lugogo, where Nakku formally unveiled her campaign agenda.

In her address, Nakku pledged to be a strong advocate for youth issues, with a focus on combating unemployment, poverty, and the lack of access to vocational education and training. She emphasized her commitment to ensuring the voices of young people are heard at the national level.
Delegates from all four regions of Uganda were present at the launch and collectively described Nakku as the candidate who best represents the hopes and aspirations of Uganda’s youth. They praised her vision, energy, and alignment with the NRM’s core values.
“This endorsement is not just symbolic—it marks a turning point in the political engagement of young people in Uganda,” one of the youth leaders stated during the event.
Nakku outlined her plans to push for the establishment of a dedicated Youth Development Fund to address persistent challenges, which she said are not sufficiently tackled by existing government initiatives like the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP).
She encouraged young people to embrace commercial agriculture as a viable path to economic empowerment and national development. Nakku also emphasized the importance of strengthening the collaboration between the National Youth Council and the NRM Youth League, and she called for increased representation of women in leadership roles.
Nakawa Division RCC Edwin Benezer, who attended the event, congratulated the youth delegates for endorsing Nakku. He affirmed her credentials and suitability for the role and urged the youth to engage peacefully in the electoral process, cautioning against violence as a means of political expression.
“Nakku Fiona is not just a candidate—she is a champion for our voices and our future,” Benezer said, echoing widespread support among attendees.
In closing, Nakku rallied support for President Yoweri Museveni in the 2026 general elections, stating that a united NRM youth front is crucial for advancing shared national goals and aspirations.
