Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ezekiel Emitu Ebapu has officially assumed office as the new Commander of the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP), succeeding Commissioner of Police (CP) Richard Ecega in a formal handover ceremony held today at Central Police Station, Kampala.
The ceremony was presided over by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Frank Mwesigwa, Director of Operations, who praised CP Ecega for his dedicated service and exemplary leadership during his tenure.
“Kampala Metropolitan Police operates in one of the country’s most sensitive and demanding policing environments,” Mwesigwa said. “It requires constant vigilance, resilience, and sound judgment. CP Ecega discharged his duties with professionalism and commitment, setting a strong example for his successor.”
Mwesigwa highlighted that a change in command is not just a change of office but a transition of responsibility, authority, and accountability.
He urged Emitu to focus on:
Strengthening crime prevention through inter-agency collaboration; exercising firmness, restraint, and professionalism in operations; enhancing discipline, supervision, and operational accountability; and building strong partnerships with the community, recognizing that public trust is a strategic asset
Mwesigwa further called on Emitu to execute his duties diligently, guided by discipline and an unwavering commitment to public service.
