In response to recent allegations, reportedly from the former Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, suggesting that Tango Odoi may not be the right person to oversee the upcoming election, Odoi has issued a firm and respectful clarification.
“I hold the Rt Hon. Kadaga in the highest esteem,” Odoi began. “She served as Speaker and Deputy Speaker for 20 years and understands well how conflicts of interest are managed. It is therefore surprising to hear such claims.”
Odoi emphasized that the electoral process is managed by a commission of seven commissioners who will conduct the Kololo election with transparency and integrity from 10 am. until 4 pm.
“The election will be open to all eyes, and voters will be seen lining up behind their preferred candidates. No one, including myself, has the power to alter the results,” he stated.
He clarified that if a candidate has fewer voters in line, that is a reflection of voter choice, not manipulation.
“I am principled and impartial. I have no interest in influencing the election outcome to favor anyone. The ambitions of candidates belong to them, and I respect that,” Odoi said.
Addressing rumors about his son’s involvement as a candidate, Odoi pointed out that there is no law prohibiting the son of a sitting member from contesting office.
“If my son is standing, the commission will ensure that the election is fair and unbiased. I will not intervene or influence voters on his behalf,” he assured.
He reaffirmed confidence in the NRM Electoral Commission’s ability to manage the election process independently. “This is not the ‘Tango Odoi Family Commission,’ but a structured body committed to fairness,” he added.
Odoi also expressed readiness to cooperate fully with any tribunal decisions, including calls for re-voting if necessary, underscoring the commitment to a credible and transparent electoral process.
