The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has urged 55 new members in Mityana to champion unity, peace and economic transformation as they begin their political journey within the ruling party.
Speaking to the new members, NRM leaders challenged them to take the party’s message of economic transformation to communities across the district, with emphasis on helping citizens distinguish between development and wealth creation.
Nekesa said the new members have a responsibility to popularise the NRM’s key economic models and mobilise communities to embrace opportunities that can improve household incomes and livelihoods.
She said the NRM philosophy remains anchored on peace, unity and development, urging the new members to promote these principles as they engage with communities.
“The NRM philosophy has never changed. It has always been anchored around three areas: peace, unity and development. Your responsibility is to promote unity, ensure there is peace and work with our people for development,” she said.
Nekesa also called on the new members to help communities understand the economic opportunities available to them, pointing to the party’s four decades in government as part of its record of development.
“The NRM government has been around for the last 40 years, and our progress is steadfast. Your role now is to help us mobilise our people and make them understand the economic opportunities available to them,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of the new members, Mugisha thanked the NRM leadership for welcoming them and appealed to senior party officials to provide guidance as they take on their new political responsibilities.
“To the senior leaders, we ask you to guide us. We need your guidance and knowledge as we start this journey, because our desire is to serve our people and contribute to the future of our country,” Mugisha said.
He pledged that the new members were ready to participate in party activities and serve their communities.
“We are available and ready to work for our people and for the future of our country, Uganda,” he added.
Hon. Kibedi also reflected on the political journeys of some of the new members and the support they had received from party leaders and grassroots structures. He welcomed the group and stressed the importance of continued engagement, collaboration and maintaining strong links with communities.
The 55 new members pledged to take part in NRM activities and contribute to the party’s work in Mityana, as the party seeks to strengthen its grassroots structures and advance its message of unity and economic transformation.
