Over 100 suspected criminals arrested during Kampala night police operations
A total of over 150 suspected criminals have been apprehended during police night operations.
This operations were conducted on
the night of March 9, 2026 across several policing areas within the Kampala Metropolitan region.
The operations targeted identified crime hotspots and black spots where criminal elements gather, smoke narcotic substances, gamble, and plan criminal activities such as phone snatching, burglaries, and robberies.
The Deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesman, Luke Owoyesigyire, the operations were jointly carried out by the Police with support from the UPDF and supervised by various Divisional Police Commanders and Operations Commanders in their respective jurisdictions.
Areas covered included Kira, Kajjansi, Wandegeya, Kakiri, Matugga, Kira Road, and the Central Business District (CPS Kampala) among others.
“As a result, over 150 suspects were arrested from different black spots,” he added.
Some of the exhibits that were recovered include marijuana, suspected narcotic substances, knives, playing cards, and other items used in criminal activities.
Owoyesigyire noted that several cases have been opened at the respective police stations, and the suspects are currently undergoing screening, statement recording, and processing for court.
Preliminary findings indicate that many of the suspects were frequenting these locations where they would engage in narcotics use, gambling, and later participate in criminal acts targeting unsuspecting members of the public.
Owoyesigyire said the Uganda Police Force will continue conducting disruptive operations across the metropolitan area to deter criminal activity and enhance the safety of the public.
Police urged members of the public to continue sharing information with the Police to help identify criminal elements within their communities.
