At exactly 11:00pm on February 1, 2026, a joint police team descended on Kigombya in Mukono Central Division, Mukono District, a mapped-out black spot long known as a haven for criminals.
The area, notorious for marijuana smoking, ambush-style robberies, and attacks on unsuspecting residents, was sealed off in a swift operation that left suspects with nowhere to run.
The Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, Rachel Kawala said by the time the dust settled, 11 suspects had been rounded up.
All are currently in police custody as investigations continue ahead of prosecution.
Just days earlier, on January 30, 2026, at around 6:00pm, Kampala Central Police Station, working alongside local leaders, launched another hard-hitting operation codenamed “FUKUZA MAFISADI.” The sweep cut across crime-prone zones including Nakasero, Entebbe Road, Nasser Road, behind Church House, Railway Grounds, Punjani, the Electoral Commission area, and Mukwano.
The targets: groups of youth who lurk at known black spots, waiting for traffic jams and crowded walkways to strike. Their methods are quick and ruthless — snatching mobile phones and handbags, and stripping vehicle parts from motorists trapped in congestion.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 100 suspects, all of whom are expected to appear in court today, February 2, 2026.
Kawala said criminal hideouts are shrinking, and the net is tightening.
