Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested 58 suspects in a series of targeted operations conducted across Kampala and surrounding areas to disrupt criminal activities in identified crime-prone spots.
The operations, carried out between September 30 and October 1, targeted areas in Kampala Central, Entebbe, Kisubi and Kasangati, where police said they had received reports of suspected criminal activities.
In Kampala Central, police arrested 18 suspects during operations in Nakasero, Biwoloma, Nile Coach, Mini Price and Kisekka. The suspects are being detained at Central Police Station Kampala as investigations and other legal processes continue.
Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, said the operations were aimed at disrupting criminal activities and improving public safety. “We will continue conducting targeted operations, patrols, surveillance and community policing activities in identified crime-prone areas to disrupt criminal activities and maintain public safety,” he said.
In Entebbe, seven suspects were arrested in Kitala Cell, an area commonly known as Bagdadi along Garuga Road. Police said suspected narcotic substances were recovered, while two of the suspects were allegedly caught attempting to break into a shop.
At Kisubi, 15 suspects were arrested in the Bugiri-Kiwulwe area following reports of suspected cannabis smoking and distribution at Mwaalo landing site. Police said suspected cannabis seeds and rolled cannabis sticks were recovered during the operation.
In Kasangati, police arrested 14 suspects in Nakwero A and Lusajja, while four others were arrested in Kazinga and Bulamu for alleged possession of suspected narcotic substances.
Police said all the suspects are being processed in accordance with the law and will be taken to court where appropriate.
Kampala Metropolitan Police has urged members of the public to provide information about suspected criminal activities in their communities to support ongoing efforts to prevent and disrupt crime.
