As the country approaches the New Year 2026, the Uganda Police Force reports that the Christmas period was largely peaceful, with no major security breaches. Only a few isolated criminal cases and a tragic road accident that claimed seven lives were recorded during the festive season.
With just two days to the New Year, the Police extend wishes of peace, joy, and unity to all citizens.
The Uganda Police spokesman, Rusoke Kituuma noted that as large overnight prayers are expected during New Year celebrations, organizers are urged to strictly follow these guidelines and collaborate with police and relevant authorities to ensure participant safety.
Police also reminds road users to exercise caution, particularly after 1st January 2026, when many will travel to cities or return to their villages.
New Year 2026 Fireworks
The Uganda Police have outlined strict rules for fireworks displays during the New Year:

Only licensed blasters representing approved applicants may discharge fireworks.

Displays must be publicly advertised via electronic and print media, including local FM radio and newspapers.

Each display should not exceed five minutes from the first blast.

Counter Terrorism Police officers will escort fireworks and supervise displays with District Police Commanders (DPCs).

All venues will be inspected prior to the event to ensure safety.

Area DPCs may stop any display that fails to comply with regulations.

Any unused fireworks must be handled only by a licensed explosives blaster.
Kituuma noted that non-compliance may lead to immediate termination of the display and other appropriate actions.
He also urged citizens are not to burn tires, as it damages roads and infrastructure, while firearm holders are cautioned against firing shots into the air, which poses serious public safety risks.
