The Territorial Police at Nsangi Police Division have rescued 47 young people from an alleged human trafficking operation run under the guise of an online job recruitment program.
The victims, men and women aged 16 to 30, were reportedly transported from several upcountry districts, including Mbarara, Bushenyi, Kabale, Ntungamo, Mityana, and parts of the Busoga region. According Rachel Kawala, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, the victims were lured with promises of online employment opportunities following financial literacy training.
However, the operation was launched after one victim managed to escape from the suspected trafficking camp and provided critical intelligence to investigators.
Authorities have identified the recruiting entity as Dream Visionaries, which operates under Alliance in Motion Global. Police say efforts to locate and arrest the company’s director are ongoing.
Preliminary investigations indicate the group targeted vulnerable youth, charging them a registration fee of 150,000 shillings.
Once transported to the camp, the victims were allegedly confined to cramped rooms, their phones confiscated for six days, and denied communication with their families.
After the isolation period, each victim was reportedly instructed to call home and demand Shs1.5 million in supposed “start-up capital.”
Kawala said all 47 victims are now receiving care and support at the Nsangi Police Division as investigations continue.
