The Uganda Police have issued a stern warning to all motorists operating without valid driving licenses, cautioning that they risk arrest and prosecution if found on the road.
Michael Kananura, spokesperson for the Traffic and Road Safety Directorate, said enforcement operations are underway targeting drivers with expired, invalid, or non-existent licenses.
“If you do not have a valid driving license, do not risk getting on the road,” Kananura warned. “We are out there, and we are looking for you. If your license has expired, is out of class, or you have never obtained one at all, please don’t step onto the road.”
He emphasized that offenders, particularly those who have never held a driving license, will be taken straight to court. “We do have a ticket for you. What we do when we catch you is take you directly to court. So, be in the know and be warned,” Kananura stated.
The warning comes as police continue their nationwide sensitization campaign aimed at promoting behavioral change among road users and reducing traffic-related offenses.
Authorities say road safety enforcement will remain a top priority, especially with increasing concerns over reckless driving and unqualified drivers contributing to accidents.
