KAMPALA,Uganda– President of the Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU), Irene Nakasiita, has called on corporate organizations to prioritize employee wellness by promoting regular physical activity as a means of combating lifestyle-related illnesses.
Speaking during the 2025 PRAU Run held in Kampala, Nakasiita emphasized that physical activities such as running not only help to prevent non-communicable diseases but also foster networking and improve productivity within the professional community.
“We don’t only look at this run as a leisure activity, but as an opportunity to promote good health,” Nakasiita said. “We run to beat non-communicable diseases, to promote wellness among our members, and to create a happier, more productive workforce. This also doubles as a networking platform and a key part of PRAU’s member mobilization and coordination strategy.”
The 5-kilometer race attracted numerous corporate participants and PR professionals. The event kicked off from Sideline Bar and Restaurant near Lugogo Indoor Stadium, weaving through Upper Kololo.
Joel Kagina emerged as the winner of the 5km race, followed by Baguma Robert in second place, Edrisa Ssengonga in third, and Asaba James in fourth. Other top finishers included Lule Eriah (5th), Kiwanuka Emmanuel (6th), Annet Nkazozi (7th), Zziwa Joel (8th), Barbra Ssina (9th), and Namboozo Josephine (10th).
All top runners were recognized with accolades from African Dreamz and hampers courtesy of Movit Products.
Beyond the main race, participants enjoyed a variety of health-focused activities including aerobics, mini-marathons, wellness talks, and networking sessions. The event aimed to raise awareness on the importance of physical well-being alongside professional development, particularly for public relations practitioners and corporate professionals.
Nakasiita also used the opportunity to encourage non-members to join PRAU, citing the association’s robust calendar of member-centered activities.
“We have exciting upcoming events like the National PR Symposium scheduled for July 25, 2025, which presents an excellent platform for professional development and dialogue on key issues in the PR industry,” she noted.
The successful event was made possible through partnerships with several corporate entities including Centenary Bank, Nile Breweries Limited, Sideline Bar and Restaurant, Affinity Media, C-Care, African Dreamz, Rwenzori Mineral Water, Uganda Red Cross Society, Movit Products, NRG Radio, and Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda.
The PRAU Governing Council, led by Nakasiita, expressed gratitude to all partners for their invaluable support.
