President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Lino Anguzu as the new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), replacing Justice Jane Frances Abodo.
Abodo was recently appointed Principal Judge.
Anguzu, who has been serving as an Assistant DPP, now steps into the top prosecutorial role, marking a new chapter for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). His appointment has been forwarded to Parliament’s Appointments Committee for vetting and approval before he officially assumes office.
Sources close to State House describe Anguzu as an experienced career prosecutor known for his integrity, professionalism, and commitment to justice. His appointment is seen as part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen Uganda’s criminal justice system.
The ODPP is constitutionally mandated to direct criminal investigations, institute criminal proceedings, and ensure justice is administered fairly and in accordance with the law.
Anguzu’s leadership is expected to reinforce the institution’s role in upholding the rule of law, ensuring accountability, and promoting public confidence in the justice system.
Justice Abodo, his predecessor, served as DPP since 2020 and is credited with reforms that improved case management and prosecution efficiency.
