What began as an ordinary business transaction in the heart of Kampala quickly turned into a multimillion-shilling robbery that has kept investigators busy for weeks.
For more than two months, detectives pieced together evidence surrounding a brazen heist that unfolded near Centenary Bank’s Nkrumah Road branch, where a businessman was allegedly targeted and relieved of a fortune in cash.
The stolen money, investigators say, belonged to Economic Exchange Forex Bureau.
Now, seven men are set to answer to some of the most serious charges under Uganda’s criminal law.
Police deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, Luke Owoyesigyire, says police have completed investigations into the case.
The suspects are Mulindwa Sharif, Akid Khalid alias Bombe, Kayiira Muhamed, Tamim Kawaganya, Ongom Ivan, Kasozi Ismael alias Maso, and Gizamba Ivan all charged with aggravated robbery.
According to investigators, the group, acting alongside other suspects who remain on the run, allegedly attacked the businessman on March 26, 2026, and made off with a black backpack containing Shs620 million.
Detectives further allege that the accused were armed with a panga during the commission of the crime, a factor that elevated the case to aggravated robbery.
They are expected to be produced before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court today, (June 1, 2026).
Police have invited members of the media to follow the court proceedings as the high-profile case enters the judicial phase.
