Police in Mityana have launched investigations into a night-time break-in at the National Water offices in Central Cell, Mityana Central Division, where thieves reportedly tied up two security guards before stealing computers and other equipment.
The incident occurred at around 2am on September 29, 2026, when the unknown assailants reportedly attacked the two guards from SWAT Security Company who were on duty at the premises.
The suspects allegedly tied the guards with ropes before breaking into the offices and ransacking several rooms.
According to police, the thieves made off with 10 computer monitors, 10 central processing units (CPUs), an HP laptop and an internet router.
They also broke into a metallic safe in the Accounts and Finance section, although police said the safe was reportedly empty.
Office documents were scattered, drawers were pulled open and locks on several office doors were damaged during the raid.
Two meter-reading gadgets were later found abandoned outside the premises.
The scene was examined and documented by Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO), while a police dog was brought in to track the suspects. The dog followed a trail for about 200 metres before losing it.
Wamala Regional Police Spokesman Lameck Kigozi said police had recorded statements from the National Water area manager, Allen Nantambi, and other witnesses.
“The two guards who were on duty have been arrested to aid investigations,” Kigozi said.
He said the absence of CCTV cameras at the offices had made it difficult for investigators to immediately identify the suspects.
“These offices had no CCTV cameras, which has made the identification of the suspects difficult, but police is doing everything possible to identify and apprehend them,” Kigozi said.
Police said investigations are ongoing, with officers pursuing leads that could help identify those behind the break-in and recover the stolen property.
