RUBAGA: With great joy and gratitude, the catholic women guild of Kampala Archdiocese have today embarked on a sacred Pilgrimage to Rubaga Cathedral as they mark Jubilee year 2025.

The climax of the pilgrimage was led by the Most Rev. Paul Ssemogerere, the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese in a liturgical celebration which commenced at 10 am this morning.

The pilgrimage was graced by the Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo who in her address, assured the women that their commitment to prayer, fellowship, and collective action is a true testament to the strength and resilience of Catholic women in our community.

“Let this pilgrimage be a moment to seek God’s guidance, renew your strength, and find greater purpose in your work. May your journey to Rubaga Cathedral be filled with spiritual renewal, joy, and divine blessings and with heartfelt prayers,” the vice president said.

She used the same platform to commend the vision and dedication of the catholic in spearheading the establishment of a hostel, which according to her, this initiative will undoubtedly benefit many people within the Catholic Church.

Alupo told the congregation that it is inspiring to learn that through their tireless efforts, they have already raised UGX 450 million out of the UGX 2 billion required, through the purchase of shares and generous contributions from different parishes.

“This is a remarkable achievement and a clear demonstration of your unwavering faith and determination,” she said as she encouraged the women to remain steadfast in their mission on this noble journey.

The vice president further told the women that with unity, prayer, and perseverance, she has no doubt that their goal will be realized.

To further support the initiative, Alupo was pleased to announce her undisclosed personal contribution towards the project in addition to president Yoweri Museveni’s contribution of Shs60m.

She assured the women that it was her sincere belief that through collective efforts and generosity, they can achieve this dream together.

Alupo who doubles as woman MP for Katakwi district urged all people of goodwill to join her in supporting this cause, by ensuring that the construction of the hostel begins as planned in July 2025.

She called upon all well-wishers, benefactors, and members of the Catholic community to support this initiative saying their contributions, however big or small, will make a lasting impact in bringing this project to life and ensuring that future generations benefit from this noble endeavor.

The vice president commended the church for its role in shaping Ugandans into responsible citizens and empowering them to improve their livelihoods.

She recognized the church’s efforts in establishing schools, health facilities, and other projects that supplement government services, as well as its role in extending financial support to communities.

“The government appreciates the church’s efforts in nurturing believers spiritually and guiding them to become responsible members of society,” she said.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to championing women’s rights and eliminating discrimination against them. She asked them to continue supporting the NRM government and president Museveni in the forthcoming general elections.

The Most Rev. Ssemogerere appreciated the women pilgrims for their action of faith and asked them to continue teaching our children good morals and values as they are very crucial for their development.

“Help our young generation to understand right from wrong, and foster empathy, respect, and compassion, which are essential for becoming well-rounded and contributing members of society,” the prelate said.

The archbishop commended the vice president Alupo for her extemporary leadership characterized by humility, valuing others’ contribution and maintaining a grounded perspective, inspiring others, empowering of teams, fostering a positive and collaborative environment and a culture of respect and continuous learning.

Ann Rhita Nakyeyune, the President of the Catholic Women’s Guild of Kampala Archdiocese said women are uniquely created, and they play a vital role in shaping communities.
