Ugandan police have arrested three people over the alleged theft and possession of an iPhone 11 stolen during a concert in the capital, Kampala.
The arrests follow a video shared widely on social media showing a woman crying after her mobile phone was reportedly stolen during a performance by musician King Saha in Kololo on 15 August (2026).
Police said their investigation led to the arrest of a man identified as Abud Lubwama, also known as Mafia, who allegedly admitted stealing the phone before selling it to another suspect, Joseph Ssentongo.
“Following intelligence-led inquiries, police arrested Lubwama Abud, who disclosed that he had stolen the iPhone 11 and sold it to Ssentongo Joseph,” said Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy public relations officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
Officers then arrested Ssentongo in Nateete Central A Zone and recovered the phone from him.
Police also found a pink cover in his bag which they said was on the phone when it was stolen.
Investigators allege that Ssentongo later took the device to a third suspect, identified as Kasim Sserunjogi, who allegedly helped unlock it at Kalungi Mall so it could be used.
All three suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. Police say they are also looking for other people suspected of involvement in the theft and the unlocking of the phone.
Authorities are working to identify and trace the rightful owner of the recovered phone and establish where the original theft case was reported before determining the next steps.
