Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested three more suspects and impounded a motorcycle in an ongoing operation targeting a gang accused of using motorcycles to rob people carrying large sums of money.
The suspects were arrested on September 28 and have been identified as Bashir Kawooya, Shamiru Kiwo and Derrick Nuwamanya, also known as Akiram or Mavako. Police said the trio were found travelling on a motorcycle, registration number UMA 349NF, which was also impounded.
According to police, the suspects confessed to taking part in a robbery in the American Embassy area of Nsambya on June 24, 2026. A Nigerian national was allegedly assaulted and robbed of Shs20 million during the incident. The case is registered at Kabalagala Police Station.
Their arrest brings to six the number of suspects apprehended in the ongoing operation, while police have so far impounded five motorcycles believed to be linked to the suspected gang.
“We continue to pursue other suspects believed to be involved in the gang and are investigating their possible connection to other robbery incidents involving victims carrying money,” said Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer.
Police said the operation remains ongoing, with further updates expected as investigations continue.
