KAMPALA: The VIce President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo has referred the people of Tororo district to President Museveni to decide on which side of the district deserves to retain the name Tororo district.

After the team unanymously agreed that Tororo munciplaity be elevated to a city status as per the current boundaries, the biggest issue in the meeting remained who will retain the name Tororo district

The people of Tororo county suggested that because their county already bares the name Tororo county, it would be prudent for the name Tororo district to go to the proposed Mukuju district.

The people of West Budama equally argued that since Kisoko hosted the first administrative offices of the now Tororo district, it would necesate that Tororo district headquarters goes to Mukuju.

They also argued that the name Tororo district is an identity for the Jopadhola arguing that when one moves out side Tororo district and identify himself as a person from Tororo, the first question would be are you a mudama?

VP Alupo

After the two teams failed to agree, VP Alupo then refered them to president Museveni that she says is well aquinted with the history of this country as an elder to determine which side should go with the name Tororo.

Among the things the people of Tororo county raised that will be forwarded to the president are that Tororo County North and South be given a district with its headquaters at Mukuju with the name Tororo district

They also proposed that the new Kwapa town council be elevated into a munciplaity

Whereas the people of West Budama suggested that West Budama South and central consistencies be given an independent district called Mulanda and West Budama North and North should host Tororo district with its headquaters in Kisoko

They also proposed that Nagongera town council be elevated to a munciplaity status and Tororo general hospital be elevated to a regional referral hospital.

The vice president earlier advised that the government can only grant Tororo district three administrative units, including a city, and later, the three can decide to split themselves into whichever numbers they wished.

She also assured them that Tororo general hospital will be elevated to regional referral hospital as soon as Tororo munciplaity is granted a city status to match the standard of the city.

She was also quick to say that these were some of the opportunities Tororo people were missing due to their internal bickering that took a lot of years

Upon referring the team to the president, the Tororo county South member of Parliament Fredrick Angura suggested that the team remains in Kampala and the vice president arranges their meeting with the

President before they returned to Tororo so that the matters would be solved once and forever.
