The Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Hon. Sanjay Tanna, together with the State Minister for Industry, Hon. David Bahati, today participated in the Presidential CEO Forum’s second Information Tour at the Kampala Industrial and Business Park in Namanve.
The tour, themed “Amplifying Uganda’s Industrial Agenda for a Ten-Fold Growth Economy,” was organised in partnership with the Uganda Investment Authority.
The ministers, accompanied by other government officials, visited four industries: Ntake Edible Oil Refinery, Luuka Plastics, Steel & Tube Industries, and Staunch Machinery. The visit aimed to assess Uganda’s industrial progress and engage manufacturers on their contribution to the country’s ambition of growing the economy tenfold by 2040.
During the engagements, manufacturers cited erratic power supply, poor road infrastructure, and other challenges as major bottlenecks that increase production costs and disrupt supply chains.
Hon. Tanna commended the proprietors of the four industries for their investments and urged them to adopt clean energy solutions, such as solar power, to support the government’s Net Metering Initiative. He also called for increased investment in local skills development and apprenticeship programmes within the industrial and manufacturing sectors to help reduce unemployment.
Hon. Bahati applauded the investors for collectively contributing approximately UGX 250 billion in taxes and employing more than 3,000 Ugandans. He encouraged practical governance and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining an open investment environment.
