KAJANSI, WAKISO: Police in Kajansi are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a one-year-old baby, reportedly due to poisoning, in an incident that occurred on the night of April 10, 2026, in Katwe Cell, Nakawuka Parish, Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso District.
The deceased has been identified as Balisala Promise, a one-year-old female.
Luke Oweyisigire, Kampala Metropolitan police deputy spokesperson says the preliminary reports show that the child’s mother had, for the past two days, been leaving her baby in the care of a suspect—her nephew—while she attended night duty.
It is alleged that the suspect confessed to administering an excessive dose of medication to the child in an attempt to make her sleep, claiming the baby often disturbed him at night. He reportedly stated that a previous attempt had failed, but during the latest incident, the child died.
Police have since opened a case of suspected murder by poisoning, and investigations are ongoing.
