RUBANDA – Two people were injured on Tuesday evening after a head-on collision involving a Toyota Corolla and a Howo Sino truck at Nyamasisi Junction along the Kabale–Kisoro Road in Rubanda District.
According to Kigezi Regional Police, the crash occurred at about 6:00 p.m. on August 4, 2026.
The accident involved a red Howo Sino truck, registration number UA 099DX, and a pale white Toyota Corolla, registration number UBA 630X.
Traffic Police officers from Rubanda, together with emergency responders, quickly arrived at the scene and rescued two unidentified male victims who were rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for medical treatment.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the crash was caused by excessive speeding. Police said the driver of the Toyota Corolla allegedly left his lane and collided head-on with the oncoming truck, which was travelling from the Kisoro direction.
The extent of the victims’ injuries was not immediately established, while investigations into the crash are ongoing.
Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime urged motorists to observe traffic regulations to prevent similar incidents.
“We urge all motorists to obey traffic rules and avoid speeding, especially during peak hours. Drivers should also ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy and take adequate rest whenever they feel fatigued,” he said.
Police have appealed to all road users to exercise caution and maintain lane discipline to enhance safety on the country’s roads.
