Catholic believers around Kajjansi town council especially those in St Barbra Sub-Parish under Lweza Parish, in Wakiso district have officially received land which is half an acre to construct a modern church thanks to Uganda Clays limited.
St Barbra sub parish has for the last 70 years been using the chapel inside Uganda clays which has now become too small to accommodate the congregation.
Though, Uganda clays had granted them access to use the chapel, some time they have been facing some difficulties in accessing the chapel for prayers such as frequent security checkups at the entrance of the Factory.
The management of Uganda Clays led by its managing director, Reuben Tumwebaze and the Board chairperson, Martin Kasekende officially handed over the land during the thanks giving Mass, graced by archbishop of the Kampala diocese, Paul ssemogerere.
‘’Im happy to be here, we have come here for joy and happiness that is good news. This is why we must thank God for Pope Francis who has given us the theme for this year of being pilgrims of hope,’’ the archbishop said.
The Archbishop also challenged everyone to keep peace and respect for human rights especially at this time when the country is heading into electoral period 2025/26.
He emphasized the significance of respect to the human rights and keeping peace, noting that this must be at the center of everything. He further noted that loving one another is everyone’s task because it is among the commandments of God.
‘’We are privileged to host the Archbishop of Kampala Arch Diocese, The Most Reverend, Paul Ssemogere. We had a factory tour, but more importantly, we had a bilateral discussions with the Catholic Church. And this partnerships will mean working together in all infrastructure projects they are going to do, partnering with them in industrial development. If you’re aware, Catholic Church and Uganda clays works are inseparable across the country, we will be doing technology transfer.’’ Said Mr. Reuben, the Managing director, Uganda clays limited during an interview with media.
He said that “as far as the church that is built on our land is concerned, this factory was started by a committed Catholic Christian who started the chapel within the factory premises and Uganda clays felt it was necessary now to give them a piece of land where they can build a bigger church and allow the external communities to come and get the spiritual nourishment. This is very important to us. So we believe this church is going to transform the community, is going to transform our workers.”
