Uganda Police are searching for a 45-year-old man accused of fatally assaulting his wife after a domestic dispute that turned violent leading to death, in Mubende District.
This is the latest case to draw attention to the country’s persistent challenge of domestic violence.
Investigators say Daniel Byaruhanga, a resident of Kabulooka Village in Gogonya Parish, Kitenga Sub-county, allegedly attacked his wife, 38-year-old Merabo Kyarisima, during an argument that escalated shortly after midnight on July 6, 2026.
Authorities allege that after severely beating her, the suspect rushed the injured woman to a dispensary in Kyenda Town Council before fleeing the area.
She died from her injuries at about 9:00am the following day.
“We strongly condemn such acts of domestic violence, which continue to claim the lives of our people,” said Lameck Kigozi, the Public Relations Officer for the Wamala Policing Region. “Many of these incidents are linked to excessive alcohol consumption, substance abuse, poverty, dishonesty, mistrust and disrespect. We urge couples to address these challenges peacefully and seek help before disagreements escalate into violence.”
A murder case has since been registered at Mubende Police Station, and detectives from the regional homicide unit visited and documented the crime scene as part of the investigation. Witnesses have recorded statements, while the victim’s body was transferred to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police said the suspect remains at large and efforts to trace and arrest him are ongoing.
Kigozi said investigations continue as to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
