KAMPALA, Uganda – The United States Embassy in Uganda has announced the grand opening of the new American Center-Kampala, a vibrant hub for learning, innovation, and cultural exchange. The newly relocated American Center was officially inaugurated by Ambassador William Popp and stands as a testament to the enduring partnership between the United States and Uganda.
The opening of the American Center coincides with the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence—America250, a milestone that celebrates the founding values of liberty, opportunity, and self-governance.

The Center embodies these ideals by providing everyone with access to educational resources, including a lending library, computer lab, 3D printing facilities, free Wi-Fi, and a wide range of programs designed to foster skills development and open dialogue.
“The Center embodies America’s founding ideals. It is a space for connection, learning, and opportunity,” said Ambassador Popp. “We invite everyone—students, educators, entrepreneurs, and lifelong learners to use this Center and join us in building a brighter future rooted in knowledge and opportunity.”
Over 8,000 patrons used the Center last year, and more than 500 Ugandans have graduated from the Center’s Workforce Accelerator, while 300 have completed the Foreign Policy Executive Program.
The Center also highlights the talents of Ugandan alumni from U.S. government exchange programs, including the creative contributions of Mandela Washington Fellows Ssekkito Emmanuel and Humphrey Nabimanya, who designed the Center’s murals and interior.
The United States continues to support education, innovation, and mutual understanding in Uganda. The American Center—located on the first floor of the Embassy Plaza Building on Ggaba Road, is open to the public Monday through Saturday.
