Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo has bid farewell to the Outgoing Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Uganda, William Popp.
The ceremony took place on Tuesday, May 26, at her office in Kampala. Vice president and the envoy reflected on historical relations and appreciated the outstanding contribution in strengthening and consolidating Uganda-US relations.
Alupo congratulated H.E. Popp on finishing his tour of duty and commended his efforts in ensuring the continued warmth and cooperation between the two countries.
She lauded the successful conclusion of the 2026-2030 health cooperation framework valued at USD 2.3 billion. She emphasized Uganda’s commitment to over USD 500m towards domestic health financing as evidence of Uganda’s growing self-reliance.
The vice president also re-affirmed Uganda’s commitment to regional peace and security and appreciated cooperation between the United States and Uganda’s people’s defence forces. She underlined Uganda’s commitment to economic transformation, industrialisation, and private sector growth.
In conclusion, Alupo noted that Uganda remains an important regional partner for the United States in East and Central Africa, while the United States continues to be a major strategic, humanitarian, and health partner for Uganda.
Amb. Popp expressed gratitude for the warm reception and friendly connections established during his tenure in Uganda.
“I take pride and special privilege to have served in this country, and I honour your support in various fields that have benefited both Uganda and United States,” he remarked.
