Vice President, Jessica Alupo, has pledged total dedication, loyalty and cooperation with Parliament following her approval by the 12th Parliament to continue serving in the country’s second highest office.
Delivering her acceptance speech before Parliament, Alupo expressed humility and gratitude to God, while thanking President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for once again entrusting her with the responsibility of serving Ugandans as Vice President.
“Hon colleagues, I stand here today with humility and profound gratitude to the Almighty God,” Alupo said, quoting Isaiah 60:22: “When the time is ripe, I Yahweh will quickly bring it out.”
She also congratulated Jacob Marksons Oboth upon assuming leadership as Speaker of the 12th Parliament and Thomas Tayebwa on his role as Deputy Speaker.
Alupo thanked the people of Katakwi District for once again electing her as Woman Member of Parliament, promising to diligently fulfill her mandate while balancing her responsibilities as Vice President.
“I thank the appointing authority H.E. Y.K. Museveni for trusting me yet again by appointing me for the second time to serve the people of Uganda as Vice President. I do not take it for granted,” she said.
The Vice President assured Parliament that she would serve with “utmost dedication and loyalty,” giving full attention to national matters during her tenure. Citing Luke 12:48, she noted that greater responsibility comes with greater expectations.
Alupo also thanked Members of Parliament for unanimously approving her appointment and called for teamwork and unity among leaders.
“When we work as a team, we accomplish our assignments very fast, very well and very easily,” she said, while quoting Psalm 133:1 on the importance of harmony and unity.
In her remarks, the Vice President urged legislators to support government efforts aimed at transforming Uganda’s economy and lifting citizens out of poverty. She challenged leaders to focus on grassroots communities and ensure financial inclusion for households still outside the money economy.
“I call upon all members of this House to envisage a Uganda with a GDP of 500 billion dollars but connect all the grassroots masses who we are leading to this economy,” Alupo stated.
She emphasized the importance of Parliament strengthening its oversight role in monitoring poverty alleviation programs across villages, parishes, districts and cities.
Alupo further praised Speaker Among for her leadership experience and described her as a leader with a deep sense of humor and wealth of knowledge that would continue benefiting the House.
In conclusion, the Vice President pledged full cooperation with Parliament and called on legislators to focus on issues that unite the country rather than divisions.
“The opportunity has been bestowed upon us by the people of Uganda to serve them. Let’s endeavor to do our level best,” she said, quoting Proverbs 29:18 on the importance of vision and respect for the law.
