In a major breakthrough against rising crime in Mukono District, police forces conducted two intelligence-led operations on October 7, 2025 leading to the arrest of 16 suspects and the seizure of dangerous weapons and illegal drugs.
The first operation took place around 3:00 PM in Ntinda Zone, Seeta Ward, Goma Division, where Mukono Police, working in close coordination with local defense teams, targeted individuals believed to be behind a wave of aggravated robberies in the area.
The suspects, armed with pangas and knives, are accused of attacking homes, inflicting harm on residents, and stealing property in Seeta and Goma divisions.
A total of 15 suspects were apprehended in the raid, seven of whom are wanted in connection with ongoing investigations into violent robbery cases.
Several weapons, including pangas and knives, were recovered along with quantities of opium, which was found on the suspects and at their hideouts.
Earlier that same day, at approximately 12:00 PM, another operation was conducted in Bugujju Cell, Nsube Kauga Ward, Mukono Central Division.
This raid, led by the Uganda Christian University (UCU) police team in collaboration with local defense personnel, targeted an individual suspected of drug-related activity near the UCU Mukono campus.
During the operation, police arrested Wodiya Edrine, who was found in possession of opium, along with drug paraphernalia including grinders, filters, wrappers, and bottles of Codeine syrup. Edrine has since been charged with unlawful possession of opium.
These operations are part of a broader effort by Uganda Police to clamp down on rising cases of violent crime and drug abuse in Mukono and its surrounding areas. Authorities have continued to emphasize the importance of community collaboration and intelligence gathering to identify and neutralize criminal threats.
Patrick Onyango, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, reaffirmed the force’s commitment to restoring safety and security in known crime hotspots. He praised the cooperation between law enforcement and local defense teams, highlighting it as a critical factor in the successful execution of the operations.
“These joint operations show the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and community involvement. We will continue to pursue those who endanger the lives and wellbeing of our people,” SSP Onyango stated.
Police have urged residents to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activities as part of the collective effort to maintain law and order across the region.
